The Year of the Pig!!

We celebrated the Lantern Festival on Saturday with our Chinese Group. We learned that the Lantern Festival is the celebrated during the last days of the Chinese New Year. We celebrated by having a potluck carry-in dinner which I made Grandma Donna's famous meatballs.

What I didn't realize is that meatballs are actually served during Chinese New Year and the Lantern Festival. They have a symbolic meaning and everything!

After dinner, each of the girls received the famous red envelope with money all the way from China. It is a tradition during these festivals to give money to the children. A little walkin' around money, if you will. (Even Bella got an envelope that we can put in her scrap book!!)

As always, Mike was the hit of the party. He is pictured above with all of the girls teaching them how to make paper airplanes. Of course, this was not the intended use for the paper on the table but the girls had a blast anyway.

We finished off the party with Mike becoming the human jungle gym that he always becomes. He kept the girls busy by making conga-lines where they were hopping, jumping, and even conga-ing. He then finished off the day by giving all the girls "Piggy Back" rides around the church, because, duhhhh, it is the Year of the Pig after all!!!!

I might add that all day yesterday my poor boy was quite sore and could not lift his arm up very far at all, but he really didn't complain too much because of the good time he had playing with these little beauties.
