A little background info on what happens to the child when a foreign parent adopts them......From what I understand, when we receive our daughter in her providence in China and sign the papers. The child will then become our responsibility. She is no longer considered a citizen of China, yet, she isn't technically a citizen of the US yet...... This never occurred to me to be a problem until.......
Recently, a couple from our agency went to China to adopt a special needs little girl. The adoption went through in the child's providence , while in China, the husband was not feeling well and ending up passing away. As if that isn't horrible enough. There was some question whether the adoption would be finalized since the mother's marital status had changed and her I171h form on the US side of things was now considered incorrect. Apparently, several Senators and even Conaliza Rice were involved in bringing this family home and fixing this paper so that this poor woman could come home with the child that both her and her husband had so desired. I just can't imagine this woman's pain and sorrow after losing her beloved husband in a foreign land, and then being told that the adoption of this special little girl might not go through since a tragic event beyond her control took place. I applaud all those who helped this woman and child become a family!!
For all of those who read this blog...please say an extra prayer for this family.
